Background:
Baxter, or Bax, as his friends sometimes call him, was into taking care of things from a very early age.  His parents were both killed in a loss of atmosphere accident at the Mars colony when he was 6, and his aged Grandmother was left to take care of him.  He remembers wondering at the time why more couldn’t be done to save his Parent’s lives.

By the time he was 10, his Grandmother had become more and more ill, and less and less able to take care of herself.  Baxter found himself in a situation where he had to become very familiar with his Grandmother’s various medical conditions so that he could take care of her.  From learning to use a hypospray correctly to adjusting dosages for medications, he became very familiar with a number of rudimentary medical techniques.  He also became good friends with his Grandmother’s doctor, Dr. James Kine.

Dr. Kine saw real potential in Baxter, not only in his bedside manor and finesse in helping his Grandmother, but also in the fact that Baxter was head of his classes at the local school, usually outstripping his own teachers.  So, when Baxter’s Grandmother passed away when he was 15, Dr. Kine suggested to Baxter that he consider applying to medical school, knowing that his grades would be good enough to get him in at such an early age.
At the age of 16, with no real ties to the Mars colony, Baxter was accepted into Harvard medical.  His performance, while good, was less than stunning.  Many of the councillors who spoke to him got the feeling that his youth was hampering his ability to excel, and Baxter felt very alone, and upset that his performance was lacking.

At the age of 18, he had decided to quit the medical school in search of a more enjoyable career path.  It was at this time that he recalled that his friend from Mars colony, Jason Masters, had always dreampt of going to Starfleet Academy, so Baxter looked him up.  After a couple of conversations with Jason, he was convinced that applying to Starfleet would give him what he needed.

Over the next four years, Baxter did very well at the Academy.  It wasn’t his first love, but he had a friend he’d known for a long time to offer moral support, and he began to learn a bit about living in the real world.  He came out of his shell, and even took up a couple of sports, doing relatively well in the Kickboxing league.
In his fourth year at the Academy, when his friends were looking for their Cadet cruises, Baxter saw a posting looking for Academy graduates to enter into Starfleet’s medical training.  After thinking about it for a little while and checking out the course calendar, Baxter decided that this was his niche.  Not only would he learn the standard stuff that was taught at regular medical schools on earth, but the Exo and Xeno biology components would be something entirely new.

It was during his time at Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Medical that Baxter began to realize that he had a flare for languages.  After having taken a course in “Conversational Vulcan”, Baxter decided to try out a few other languages.  To date, he’s picked up rudimentary understanding in a variety of Terran languages as well as several alien languages.

Personality: Baxter has a dry sense of humor and a ready smile.  He’s well spoken, and amiable, and usually gets along pretty well with most everyone he meets.
