Background: David Spencer was born into a Starfleet family. While his father was often away on deep space assignments, his mother was only slightly more available to him. Her frequent visits were always eagerly anticipated by young David.
The majority of his time, David lived with his grandmother in Florida. It was there that he learned sailing and developed his love of the ocean. By the age of 12 he had a small sloop that he spent almost all of his time on.
It was the death of his mother that finally spurred him to enter Starfleet Academy. His starfleet career was remarkably smooth and uneventful, until his tour aboard the USS Shapiro. He had worked his way up to the position of the first officer when the ship was attacked during a minor skirmish in the outskirts of explored space. With the Captain dead, Spencer took command and lead the ship back to the nearest Federation outpost. A trip that took over 19 months on impulse drive.
Based on his leadership and problem solving abilities during this time, Starfleet chose him to take command of the newly refurbished USS Republic.
Personality: Captain Spencer often seems intimidating by his quiet introspecitveness, but in reality he is extremely casual and laid back in his attitudes toward his crew. His sense of humor can be very dry and sarcastic.
