BACKGROUND:
Jonothan Fitzgerald was born in 2246 and is the only son of Gordon and Patricia Fitzgerald. He was born aboard his father's freighter, the S.S Golden Star, while the ship was returning to Earth from a run to Andor. Patricia, seven months pregnant, insisted on going with her husband to Andor so that she could meet an old friend. On the way back, Jonothan was born a month premature.

As he grew up in the family home in Brisbane, Australia, Jonothan would always dream of flying a ship, just like his father. Gordon Fitzgerald would often bring his son gifts from the exotic trading ports he frequented and every gift added a little to Jonothan's yearning to travel in space.

From the age of 12, Jonothan began asking his father to bring him along on a freight run, but each time Gordon would refuse, telling his son that it wasn't safe. It wasn't until he was 16 that Jonothan finally set foot on the Golden Star and went with his father on a short run to Alpha Centauri and back.

In the months following his inaugural trip on a freighter, Jonothan decided he wanted to enter Starfleet and work at the helm of a starship. He began his studies at Starfleet Academy at the beginning of 2264 and immediately impressed his instructors with his ability to learn skills remarkably quickly. Despite this, however, his results were never very impressive. He consistently scored around 70%. But his scores were enough to enable him to graduate and recieve his commission as a Helmsman.

His first assignment was to the patrol vessel, USS Powell, which was assigned to patrol the border with the Klingon Empire. He served for seventeen months on the Powell and saw three seperate engagements with Klingon forces, taking the helm in the heat of battle on one of those occassions following the death of the chief helmsman.

In mid-2269, he was transferred to the USS Agamemnon, which performed mostly star charting expeditions. In 2273, after almost four years on the Agamemnon, Jonothan was promoted to Lieutenant junior grade in recognition of his consistent diligent performance of his duties.

He remained aboard the Agamemnon for another two and a half years before being offered the position of Chief Helmsman aboard the USS Republic. It was  an offer Jonothan simply couldn't pass up.

PERSONALITY
Jonothan Fitzgerald is a laid-back, fun-loving person who considers himself  to be a friend to everyone. He is easy to get along with and he will always make an effort to befriend people. He is the sort of person who can find a bright side to just about any situation, and can also brighten people's spirits in the darkest of times.
